Vonage Fights PSCs, FCC Over State USF VoIP Fees

Vonage Holdings Corp. is now fighting in two federal courts to stop state public utility commissions from imposing universal service fees on its nomadic VoIP service.

In one court, Vonage has the added burden of arguing that its interpretation of an FCC order that preempted some state VoIP regulation is correct – even though the FCC offered a different view in a “friend of the court” (amicus curiae) brief.
