Report Says Few E-Commerce Firms

More U.S. companies doing business on the Internet are beginning to understand the dangers of cybercrime, yet many still are not doing enough to limit their liabilities and are not training staff to handle these risks, according to a new study sponsored by the St. Paul Companies (SPC).

SPC surveyed 501 information technology (IT) managers and corporate risk managers responsible for their firms’ insurance coverages, concluding that while companies are relying on anti-virus software and other technological protections, risk managers are “out of the loop” when assessing and managing their companies’ Internet liability risks.

U.S. Consumers Are Making More E-Purchases at Work

With a big chunk of their day consumed by work, many U.S. consumers are finding it more appealing to make their online purchases while on the job, according to the most recent survey on online shopping prepared by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

Some 22 percent of Internet consumers now shop online while at work, compared with only 12 percent in 1999. CEA’s annual study of about 850 U.S. adults has shown this volume has increased each year since 1999.
