Wireless Broadband Service Providers Approach Key Window of Opportunity

Wireless telecommunications providers insist that fixed wireless platforms like MMDS (multipoint multichannel distribution service) and LMDS (local multipoint distribution service) are powerful options for providing broadband Internet solutions. They say the platforms enable service providers to launch broadband services quickly. And once technical bugs such as line-of-sight limitations are resolved with enhanced equipment, wireless technologies can expedite service deployment by limiting the need for expensive plant upgrades.

Three-Way CLEC Merger May Presage More Deals
Three telecom executives who once worked side by side at Brooks Fiber Properties, an early local competitor, have decided to merge their privately held companies to form a new competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC).
The executives and their companies are Brad Evans, president of Cavalier Telephone LLC of Richmond, Va.; Robert Shanahan, president and chief operating officer of Conversent Communications, Inc., of Marlboro, Mass.; and Michael Gallagher, president and chief executive officer of Florida Digital Network, Inc., of Orlando, Fla.
