Top DHS Official Offers Support For Cybersecurity Legislation

An Obama administration official this week offered -- for the first time in public -- general support for legislation to boost the Department of Homeland Security's cybersecurity authority.

The brief, generic statement of support came during a July 21 hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Susan Collins (R., Maine), the panel's ranking member and author of one of several cybersecurity bills pending in Congress, raised the issue with Jane Holl Lute, DHS's deputy secretary.
